Self-adhesive roll labels are labels with an adhesive backing, supplied wound onto a core. They are designed for automatic application on production lines, onto bottles, boxes, packaging, cans, and other finished products. They are used in the food, chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and other industries.
A multilayer label has two or three layers of film or paper. The top layer peels back and reattaches, revealing additional content underneath, so a single label can carry up to 80 pages of text. It is used when legal and marketing information does not fit on a standard label, without changing the look of the packaging.
The most common materials are paper (matte, semi-gloss, gloss) and synthetic materials: PP (polypropylene), PE (polyethylene), PET (polyester), and PVC. The choice depends on the application conditions: moisture, temperature, chemicals, UV exposure. Choosing the right adhesive matters just as much: standard, high-tack, removable, or a special adhesive for cold and frozen products.
Flexo printing (flexography) is a roll-to-roll relief printing technique. It is ideal for self-adhesive labels because it can print on a wide range of substrates, it is cost-effective for large runs, and it allows printing in up to 9 colors with UV protective varnish in a single pass.
